GOOD BUSINESS COLORADO DAYS OF SERVICE
Jul. 29, 2020 • by Jeffrey Pote
Many Coloradans are having to make hard choices between food, rent, and other basics. For this reason, Good Business Colorado in partnership with Twiggs & Co., The Logos Group, Bondadosa, and Pote Law Firm organized two days of service this July to help address the critical need that nonprofit organizations, particularly those in the food recovery and distribution space, have at this time.
Good Business Colorado is a grassroots organization that helps give a voice to values-driven businesses by advocating in collaboration with its members for a prosperous economy, equitable communities, and a sustainable environment - and its members are businesses who are generally committed to the triple-bottom line of people, planet, and prosperity.
In these challenging times, the nonprofits who help support our community are experiencing an increased demand at the same time that funding and volunteer support has become harder to come by. But Good Business Colorado and its members are stepping up to help fill that need!
The past two Saturday mornings were Good Business Colorado Days of Service. And Good Business Colorado and its members made quite the impact!
Both Days of Service were held at Growing Home, a wonderful Denver-based nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen families, nurture children, and connect communities by filling a critical gap for those who are experiencing immediate or long-term barriers to stability and success.
With Growing Home, our Good Business Colorado members and their dedicated volunteers helped prepare boxes of food and distribute them to the families in need. Saturday is a big day for Growing Home since they are closed on Sundays and we were more than happy to lend a hand!
In addition to preparing and distributing boxes of food with Growing Home, we also were able to deliver meals directly to families at their homes thanks to the expertise of Bondadosa and the Denver Food Emergency Network.
Each Saturday, in just a few hours, I was able to deliver meals to many families in the Denver metro area -- 13 homes on just the first Saturday alone, to be exact! And other volunteer drivers helped a similar number of families. All drivers wore masks and gloves, and made their deliveries without physical contact with the recipients.
From my experience, all of the families were incredibly grateful and appreciative of the time spent delivering food directly to their homes.
I'd like to give my sincere appreciation not only to Good Business Colorado for their help organizing these days of service, but also to the wonderful GBC members who joined us on either of the past two Saturday, including folks from Bahoi, Bluebird Real Estate Group, Cielas Hair Studios, Park Meadows Pilates & Physical Therapy, stok, and Sydney Starr Travel.
Thank you all for your important service and look forward to seeing you at future events!
